There have been multiple trade rumours surrounding Anthony Davis early this season. After DeMarcus Cousins left the Pelicans and Davis became, once again, the only all-star on the team, NBA fans were wondering if the big-man wanted to leave. After hearing report after report as to the latest news on where Davis could be heading to next, there was one key thing to consider: Anthony himself didn’t say a word.

A very recent Davis rumour suggested that he wanted to head to the Los Angeles Lakers. This was one of the most accurate whisperings because the general manager of both the Pelicans and the Lakers have reportedly been discussing this deal for years. Of course, this matter is out of the hands of Davis, as he is not a free agent, and can be traded to any team because he doesn’t have a no-trade clause on his contract.

Anyways, it’s been quite a hectic month and a half in the NBA, and almost everyone seemed to think that Davis was one step away from leaving New Orleans. This is why the revelation that Davis is in fact content in Louisiana is so astonishing. According to Basketball Insiders, Davis is not only is happy playing for the Pelicans, but he’s also never expressed any interest in heading to another team. Like any other NBA player, Davis is determined to win a championship, however he wants to earn it through hard work on the New Orleans Pelicans.

The MVP candidate is averaging 28 PPG, 13 RPG, 4.8 APG, 1.6 SPG, and 2.7 BPG (leads the NBA) through 21 games. Davis’s assists, steals, and blocks numbers are all career highs. It would be hard for a team to find a deal to even offer for such a valuable asset on the Pelicans; the Lakers don’t really have any eye-popping players that could potentially be part of the Davis deal (that they would be willing to trade).

If the Los Angeles Lakers try to make a trade for Davis, or a different big-name player, the Lakers need to be careful not to throw of their nice young core. Finally, the Lakers don’t seem like a team that even needs too much change. They have lots of youth, they have LeBron James, who is arguably the best basketball player on the planet. The future seems bright for the Lakers, and it doesn’t seem like they need any more change. It’s just about the youth evolving together, and the Lakers slowly developing into a contending team.
