Golden State Warriors have agreed a deal to sign Nigerian-American guard Michael Gbinije after he was waived by the Detroit Pistons in the off-season.

Drafted 49th, Gbinije played 9 games off the bench in Detroit with rather modest stats of 0.4 points averaged in 3.6 minutes per game. However, as Kevin Smith of RealGM.com tweeted out, Gbinije will most likely spend the year in the G-League.

“Former Detroit Pistons forward Michael Gbinije has signed with the Golden State Warriors. Likely a camp deal designed to get him to NBAGL.”

The former Duke and Syracuse player has international experience with the Nigerian team, winning a gold medal in AfroBasket 2015. He was also fairly productive in college, leading Syracuse in scoring in the 2015-16 season, with 17.5 points per game.

With the acquisitions of Omri Casspi, Nick Young and Jordan Bell, the Warriors are stronger than ever after winning their second championship in three years. It certainly looks like Gibinije is one for the future.
