It has been reported by the Associated Press that the Miami Heat have signed former Thunder guard Dion Waiters to a one-year contract. Miami have been looking for an isolation post up guard to replace Dwyane Wade, and it appears they may have found their man.
Waiters has been a disappointing draft bust since he entered the league in 2012, but he had a small revival last year with the Thunder and the Heat have decided to take a chance on him.
Waiters’ points per game and rebounds per game both decreased, but he appeared more efficient in Billy Donovan’s system and stepped up for the Thunder in the playoffs.
Miami are attempting to rebuild after the loss of Dwyane Wade and they have done this by signing guys on value contracts. Waiters won’t light the world up, but at $2.9 million over one year he can be considered a steal in comparison to some of the contracts that have been paid out.
