Dario Saric Ends Two Years of Waiting, Signs With Philly
“That Homie” Dario Saric has finally made it official. The Sixers now have a decent shooter whose name is not Jerryd Bayless. They have a 6’10” combo forward who can shoot and pass, and he is a legitimate Rookie Of The Year candidate according to the Sixers.
There was a military coup in Turkey, the country in which Saric was playing his club ball, on the day he officially announced that he is headed to the NBA. Coincidence? I guess we will never know. But what we will eventually find out is whether or not he was worthy of all the hype. He shot close to 70% from three point land in the Turkish League finals, and he got the MVP award of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament for his nation, Croatia.

It will be interesting to see how he fits in with Philly. They already have a big investment at Small Forward in Ben Simmons, and one of the three star big men will likely be playing Power Forward. Since the NBA has repeatedly been called “positionless” recently, he could fit in at the Shooting Guard spot on the wing, because that is almost the same as Small Forward.

Super Dario is also known for his passing ability. Though he is not as flashy or generous as Ben Simmons, Saric could end up running the second unit, and he would make the subs much more dangerous as a result for Brett Brown’s team. Even though compatriot Mario Hezonja has a full NBA season under his belt, Saric still outperformed him in the Olympic Qualifying games. Based on that, there is good reason for these high expectations of 22-year-old.
It is always hard to tell whether or not foreign players will be successful in the NBA, but with Saric’s impressive stats and accolades from his years across the water, all signs point to yes. Fans should not jump to conclusions, but excitement is certainly warranted with the addition of a player of his caliber.
