Pistons sign Boban Marjanovic on three-year contract
Twitter: Detroit is signing Spurs restricted free agent Boban Marjanovic to a three-year, $21 million offer sheet, according to league sources (@ESPNSteinLine)
It has been confirmed by Marc Stein of ESPN that the Detroit Pistons have signed Boban Marjanovic on a three-year contract. It was originally an offer sheet that the Spurs could match, but they are resigned to losing the Serbian after spending big money on Pau Gasol.
Boban had established himself as a real fans favourite in San Antonio but even with the rising salary cap, the Spurs could not afford to keep him.
The Serbian giant who stands at seven feet and three inches averaged five points and four boards in nine minutes last year on 60% shooting from the field.
He should thrive in Detroit as Stan Van Gundy’s system creates a lot of opportunities for centers to get involved with the play. He is an instant upgrade on Aron Baynes.
