According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Dallas Mavericks have brought back Deron Williams on a one year contract worth $10 million. The move comes after Dallas struck out on multiple free agents including Mike Conley and Hassan Whiteside. It became clear to both parties that they were the best fit for each other.
Williams didn’t have a ‘comeback year’ with Dallas, but he played well in Rick Carlisle’s system and saw his field goal percentage improve drastically from 38% to 41%.
The deal is relatively good value for Dallas as the system they run doesn’t really need a star point guard, the move means they can put their focus into signing Harrison Barnes on a max contract.
Dallas have had a couple of disappointing offseasons in recent times, but they seem to always salvage it with good value signings, Williams is the first of these signings in this particular offseason.
