Hornacek most recently coached the Phoenix Suns from the beginning of the 2013-14 season to February 1st of 2016 when he was fired. He had one winning record in Phoenix, a 48-34 mark in his first season. The 2015-16 season did not go as well, as the Suns were a dismal 14-35 at the time Hornacek was fired.
The Knicks are looking to get a jumpstart for their franchise coming off of their third consecutive losing season. They finished 32-50 and third bottom in the Eastern Conference last season.
Last season Derek Fisher was the head coach at Madison Square Garden to start the season, but it was Kurt Rambis who led the team for the final 28 games of the season. The team finished the season at 9-19 under Rambis.
